Debut album from The Baker Suite, A Quartet for Car Horns and Brakes, produced by Paul Grabowsky was release March 2010.

John and Gayle met Paul Grabowsky to discuss production of their new album, A quartet for car horns and brakes.  They knew it was a perfect union when, after listening to the music Paul mentioned Burt Bacharach, Nick Drake, a sense of luxury and the importance of space.

Baker says, "Being a musician makes life very interesting, traveling the world is like being on a magic carpet.  I've been in many strange situations and formed ephemeral, yet strong connections with many other musicians. That touches something timeless."

One connection includes a friendship with George Harrison (The Beatles), which developed while John was based on Hamilton Island and George was building a house there.  They had regular jamming sessions in Georges house, including playing 'here comes the sun' as the sun was coming up.

You will often see The Baker Suite perform as a two-piece, however they are regularly joined by John Aue on double bass and BJ Barker on drums. Other guest musicians include Paul Grabowsky (piano), Erkki Veltheim (viola) and Peter Raidel (horns).

Straight from the heart and reminiscent of a smoky, French cafe. Guitarist & vocalist John Baker and accordionist Gayle Buckby create a seductive and potent world with songs influenced by a background in jazz but with Latin, European and contemporary folk elements. Playing as a Sextet at larger gigs, the full band includes the addition of double bass, piano, viola and percussion. John Baker is a storyteller - his song writing is intimate, playful and poetic with an ambiguity that draws the listener in.
